Thaiport FC, the reigning champions, turned up the heat in the second half to inflict a 9-0 loss on Lanexang United FC in the AFF Futsal Club Championship at the Futsal Indoor Stadium here today.

Today’s win was their second in as many days and moved them a step closer to qualifying for the final. With six points in the bag, Thaiport need one more win in their last two games to book their final slot.

In today’s game, Lanexang United performed remarkably in the first half, effectively putting the brakes on the speedy Thaiport players. In fact, it took Thaiport a good 12 minutes before they managed to breach the tight Laos club defence. Pornmongkol Srisubseang slipped past the defence to slot in the opener. A few minutes later, Chaivat Jamgrajang, added a scond from close range.

Despite their best efforts, the Thai side was unable to sink any more goals before the break. Lanexang’s high workrate to stop their rivals began to crumble halfway through the second half. Also, their tough encounter against MIC FC the previous night, which saw their main goalkeeper Amphavanh Chanthalavong dislocate his shoulder and sidelined today, did not help their cause.

In the 31st minute, Pronmongkol sneaked through and turned in a corner kick from Thiago Mora de Oliveira. Thaiport FC went on to hit it five more goals through Thiago (32nd), Ratthakorn Tabdoung (34th), Rattikun Plonghirun (35th), Nattapol Janhomhual (36th) and Warin Romanee (39th).

Lanexang, who will be aiming to finish at least fourth to qualify for the playoff, have one more match against Black Steel tomorrow. Thaiport FC, meanwhile, will face MIC FC tomorrow and Black Steel on Thursday.

In the evening match of men’s category today, Vietnam’s Thai Son Nam FC forged out a 7-2 win over Indonesia’s Black Steel.

It was level after a hard-fought first half. Tran Thai Huy, forced his way through the defenders and crammed in a corner kick from playmaker Olmo Campana Saul  in the ninth minute. But their joy did not last long as Black Steel’s Mochammad Iqbal Rahmatullah Iskandar waltzed through to level the score a minute later.

Thai Son Nam came alive in the second half and netted six more goals to secure their second victory of the tournament so far. Their goals came from Saul (9th, 26th, 35th) and two goals each from Tran Long Vu (28th, 32nd) and Yunusov Artur (33rd, 38th).

Black Steel’s second goal came from Marcelino Richard Waroy in the 34th minute. Black Steel will play their final group match against Lanexang United FC tomorrow to determine their final positions in the standings.
