Erick Thohir, the President of the FA of Indonesia (PSSI), has set February 2024 as the month when the nation’s top flight BRI Liga 1 will utilise the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Training for the VAR has been ongoing and it will continue in the third phase in December this year.
“In December, the third phase of training will be conducted and where we can push for this to be completed where by February VAR will be in place,” said Erick.
Erick explained that the VAR brand and system for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup which Indonesia will be hosting is the same as the one being planned for usage for BRI Liga 1.
“So, for the FIFA U17 World Cup, we will use the system for the second phase of training,” added Erick.
