ā€¢ New ten year strategy for hockey launched andĀ well-received by delegates

ā€¢ Five new National Associations announced

ā€¢ Maureen Craig-Rousseau and Dr Narinder Batra welcomedĀ to the FIH Executive Board whilst Pamela Stuper, MarcĀ Coudron and Qasim Zia were all re-elected

The InternationalĀ Hockey Federation (FIH), concluded its 2014 OrdinaryĀ Congress today in Marrakesh. The well-attended two day eventĀ was titled the ā€˜Hockey Revolution Congressā€™ andĀ delegates learnt about the Hockey Revolution ā€“ FIHā€™s new ten year strategy set to deliver a global sport,Ā inspiring the next generation.Ā 

The FIH laid out ambitiousĀ goals for the next ten years for hockey aroundĀ entertainment, professionalism, image and following.Ā 

AĀ clear strategy was outlined for hockey focusing on five keyĀ initiatives; fan-focused entertainment portfolio;Ā world-class content creation and distribution; joined-upĀ global marketing; commercial partners who share our visionĀ and educate and empower programmes.Ā 

The 44th Congress welcomed five new National AssociationsĀ from three continents. From Africa – Burundi, Cameroon andĀ Sierra Leone all become Sole Governing Member NationalĀ Associations.Ā  Vietnam join from Asia and HaĆÆti join from Pan-America, meaning FIH now has 132 NationalĀ Associations.

Voting for Ordinary Members of the FIH Executive Boar d also took place for the positions of two female members, one maleĀ member and two open positions.Ā  Of the two openĀ positions, one is for the duration of two years only, toĀ replace H.R.H. Prince Abdullah Shah following hisĀ appointment as the President of the Asian Hockey Federation,Ā thereby automatically having a position on the Board.Ā 

The voting for the new Executive Board members began withĀ the female vote. Maureen Craig-Rousseau from Trinidad andĀ Tobago was elected and Pamela Stuper from the USA wasĀ re-elected to the Board. The male place went to Dr NarinderĀ Batra from India.Ā 

The two open positions saw theĀ re-election of Marc Coudron from Belgium and Qasim Zia fromĀ Pakistan.

FIH President, Leandro Negre said, ā€œI am delightedĀ that we have welcomed new National Associations to the FIHĀ family.Ā  The addition of these new members from allĀ over the world, supports our new ambition, goals andĀ strategy and ultimately, will help to raise the globalĀ status and popularity of hockey.Ā  My congratulations toĀ the new Executive Board members and thanks to the membersĀ stepping down for their tireless effort andĀ dedication.Ā  I am looking forward to the next two yearsĀ of my tenure as FIH President, as we create a HockeyĀ Revolution.ā€
