# FA Cup finalists Pahang and Selangor in Group D

Some juicy group matches are in store in the Malaysia Cup competition, which kicks off on Aug 4, when the draw for the prestigious football tournament was made on Monday.

Defending champions Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) who beat Kedah 2-0 in the final last year, are drawn in Group C together with Kelantan and MISC-MIFA.

Relegated Kelantan incidentally was the last team to make the Malaysia Cup from the Super League with a 2-1 win over Pahang in their final league encounter in Kota Bahru on Sunday while MIFA is a Premier League outfit.

Group D is another interesting group with FA Cup champions Pahang – 2-0 winners over Selangor in the final – drawn together with Perak club side PKNP FC (Perak SEDC) and Premier League’s Sabah.

Selangor outfit PKNS FC, Melaka United, Premier League champions Felda United and PDRM (Police) will lock horns in Group B.

Felcra FC, the surprise package in the Premier League this season, will be making their Malaysia Cup debut and finished second in the lower-tier to earn promotion to the elite Super League next season has tough company – Super League runners-up Perak, Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur – in Group A.

Terengganu head coach Irfan Bakti described his team’s draw as a “fair draw with every team having a fair chance” to advance to the knockout stage.

“Group A is well balanced…we beat Perak at home but lost to them away. Do not write off KL and also Felcra,” said Irfan from Kuala Terengganu.

For Melaka chief coach E. Elavarasan the Malaysia Cup is always full surprises and believes his team will be in with a fight for the knockout stage.

“We will have to take our game to the next level in the Malaysia Cup. The team is gelling well and I have confidence in my players,” said Elavarasan who did well to take Melaka out of the relegation zone after taking over the team in mid-season. RIZAL ABDULLAH
