Italy’s Diego Rosa claimed the fifth stage of the Tour of the Basque Country on Friday as Colombia’s Sergio Henao moved into the overall lead ahead of Saturday’s concluding time-trial.

Astana rider Rosa remained out in front after an early breakaway to complete an impressive solo victory on the 159-kilometre route from Orio to Arrate.

Henao finished second, over three minutes in arrears, alongside Alberto Contador and remains six seconds clear of the Spaniard going into the hilly 16.5-kilometre time-trial around Eibar.

Dutchman Wilco Kelderman surrendered the yellow jersey after finishing outside the top 10 to tumble over a minute off the pace.
