Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying are one step away from winning the Australian Open mixed doubles after snatching a 21-16, 25-23 win in 58 minutes over China’s Wang Zekang-Li Yinhui in the semi-finals at the Quat Centre Olympic Park in Sydney on Saturday.
In the final on Sunday the Rio Olympics silver medallists, seeded seventh, will face a scratch South Korean pair Seo Seung-jae-Chae Yu-jung. The fifth seeds defeated compatriots Choi Solgyu-Kim Ha-na 21-16, 21-15.
The Malaysians, who won the Thailand Masters in January, have been on a roll in Australia and their fine run in Sydney. In the quarter-finals on Friday defeated Indonesians Yantoni Edy Saputra-Marsheilla Gischa Islami 21-3, 21-10.
