Yap Valerry overcame home favourite Tan Jet Sin 21-15, 22-24, 21-13 to set up an all-Sabah final in the Girls’ Under-16 singles in the 100PLUS National Badminton Circuit Zone A (1st-Leg) in Kuantan on Saturday.

In Sunday’s final Valerry will face top seed and hot favourite Samin Arena Satu who also endured a three-game battle – coming back from a game down for a 17-21, 21-19, 21-11 win over Penang’s Lim Sze Jin.

It did not stop at that for the East Malaysian girls when top seed Goh Shuen Tong and teammate Melody Wong Jin Ning also made it an all-Sabah affair for the Under-14 title.

Shuen Tong defeated Vanee Gobi of Perak 21-12, 21-14 while Melody beat teammate Rabiatul Hidayah Muhammad 21-8, 21-14 in their semi-final matches.

In the Boys’ Under-16 final Sabah’s Samin Demond Anthony will face Perak’s Lye Jun Yew for the title. Samin stopped Penang’s Wah Jia Wei 21-12, 19-21, 21-14 in a 65 minute battle and Jun Yew prevented an all-Sabah final when he overcame Mozes Mohd Hamizan 23-21, 21-15.

Sabah players will also feature in the Boys’ Under-14 final which will be between second seed Azahawari Hanz Haiqal and Elvestly Daniel Edry.

In the semifinals Azahawari fought his way back after losing the first game 19-21 for a 21-5, 21-7 win in the next two to down Penang’s Lee Jia. Elvestly had a much easier 21-16, 21-15 win over compatriot James Carlester Cleve.
