Malaysia’s SEA Games gold medal hopes Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong failed to make the quarter-finals in the USD800,000 BCA Indonesian Superseries Premier at the Istora Senayan Stadium in Jakarta on Thursday.

The Malaysian pair were humbled 14-21, 15-21 by the Chinese pair of Fu Haifeng-Zhang Nan in 30 minutes. Last week V Shem-Wee Kiong reached the quarter-finals of The Star Australian Open in Sydney.

While the Malaysians have caused concern Indonesia’s youngster Christie Jonatan who will carry his country’s challenge in the 28th SEA Games in Singapore, marched into the men’s singles quarter-finals with a straight set 21-17, 21-19 win over Korean veteran Lee Hyun Il in the second round.

Top seed Chen Long of China is also in the quarter-finals after a easy 21-16, 21-10 win over England’s Rajiv Ouseph while defending champion Jan O Jorgensen joined him with a 21-12, 14-21, 21-14 win over Indonesia’s Dinysius Hayom Rumbaka.

Jorgensen became the first Dane to win the Indonesian Open title last year when he defeated Japan’s Keenichi Tago 21-18, 21-18 in final. Tago also kept his challenge alive when he packed off China’s Wang Zhengming (seeded 8) 21-13, 21-15.
