National football coach Tan Cheng Hoe has called on his players to show “character” against the highly touted Thais who made the last four after a 3-0 win over Singapore in their final Group B match at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok on Sunday.
Malaysia made the semi-finals with an impressive 3-0 win over Myanmar in Bukit Jalil a day earlier. The three points were enough for Harimayu Malaya to advance as Group A runners-up with nine points. Vietnam topped the group with 10 points.
“We can beat the Thais if we are focused on winning. At the same time, we must not concede an away goal to Thailand,” said Cheng Hoe.
The return leg will be played at the Rajamangala Stadium on Dec 5.
IN THE MEANTIME, Tickets for the AFF Suzuki Cup first-leg semi-final against Thailand are selling like hot cakes with 20,000 sold online on Monday and another 20,000 on Tuesday.
The figures were revealed by the FA of Malaysia (FAM) in a statement on its Facebook on Tuesday.
There are another 40,000 tickets still available for the first-leg semi-final against the Thais at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil this Saturday.
Of the total available 30,000 would be sold at the National Stadium from this Thursday (Nov 29) while another 10,000 are available at selected Al-Ikhsan Sports outlets. BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
