Some of the world’s biggest badminton stars are endorsing the Charity “Solibad, Badminton without Borders” by becoming official Ambassadors of the foundation which started its programs for underprivileged children in 2009.
Olympic silver medalist Goh Liu Ying as well as her younger compatriot Soniia Cheah, Commonwealth Games champion Michelle Li, Danish rising star Anders Antonsen, Indian new jewel Srikanth Kidambi, All England Champions Debby Susanto of Indonesia and Chang Ye Na of Korea, former World and Olympic Champion Hendra Setiawan as well as the new kids on the Thai bloc Sapsiree Taerattanachai and her partner Puttita Supajirakul or Danish stars Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter-Juhl are amongst the new ambassadors for Solibad.
“All these names and amazing athletes joining our cause are another proof that the badminton community is unique. All the players have been so generous in the previous years, helping out even if they are not officially ambassadors, but some have vowed to take a step to make it official and will be helping us promote Solibad’s action towards the children” says Solibad’s President Raphael Sachetat.
“We now have more than 100 official ambassadors, players, but also coaches and officials as well as some of the top Para-badminton players like Lucas Mazur, Bartlomiej  Mroz or Julie Thrane”.
“Is it an honor for me to join Solibad as an official Ambassador and to have become one of their official voices” mentioned Goh Liu Ying on her facebook page while she was still in rehabilitation in Germany.
“Solibad is an organization that helps unprivileged children from all around the world and I am very happy to be apart of such a foundation” said Canada’s Michelle Li.
“I heard a lot about Solibad and their good works. I’m very happy to be associated with Solibad from now and will definitely do my best in helping and promoting it” said India’s new jewel Srikanth Kidambi.
“I feel like, as athlete, we can be role models and should be aware of our privileged conditions compared to children who live in difficult environment” says Debby Susanto, who leads the Indonesian hopes in Glasgow’s World Championships.
Goh, Antonsen, Susanto and the other stars join other top stars who have been involved very early with the charity, such as Peter Gade, now Director of Performance for France, Pi Hongyan who is the Godmother of the foundation as well as some of today’s top shuttlers like Carolina Marin, Tai Tzu Ying who wear Solibad logo on her shirts or Nozomi Okuhara who was wearing the foundation’s bracelet on the podium of the recently concluded Australia Open.
Official Ambassadors are able to speak on behalf of the foundation and explain the programs to their fellow players or to the media. They can wear Solibad’s logo on their shirt and help promote actions through their social network. Recently, the board of Solibad allowed more than one shuttler per country to become an official Solibad Ambassador.
