# Malaysia Open drawcards Lin Dan and Jorgensen also bundled out

# V Shem-Wee Kiong reach the men’s doubles quarter-finals

Top seed and three-time champion Datuk Lee Chong Wei has been bundled out of the USD300,000 Yonex Sunrise India Open SuperSeries in New Delhi after a 19-21, 19-21 defeat to Hong Kong veteran Wei Nan in a second round match on Thursday.

It was all over for the Malaysian in 42 minutes – his second successive defeat to Wei Nan who now leads 2-1 in the head to head count. Wei Nan also got the better of the former world No 1 in last year’s Denmark Open with a 21-18, 21-19 win.

Chong Wei’s only win over Wei Nan was achieved at the 2014 Singapore Open with the Malaysian winning 21-17, 21-15.

The Penangite has hit a bad patch in March. Three weeks ago he lost in the first round in a shock defeat to India’s B. Sai Praneeth in the Yonex All-England Open in Birmingham three weeks ago.

It was bad day for the seeds at the Siri Fort Indoor Stadium in New Delhi when third seed Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark and fourth seed Lin Dan of China were also shown the exit in the second round.

Jorgensen fell to Chinese youngster Xue Song who won 21-18, 15-21, 21-14 while Lin Dan suffered a straight sets 21-13, 22-20 defeat to Korean veteran San Wan-ho in a 47 minute match.

In the first round Chong Wei defeated Japanese qualifier Kazumasa Sakai 21-11, 21-17 and was expected to go far in the India Open, having won the title three times before – 2011, 2013 and 2014.

However, Malaysia’s hopes in the men’s doubles are still alive after Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong defeated China’s Wang Yilyu-Zhang Wen 21-18, 21-16 to advance to the quarter-finals.

The Malaysians face fourth seeds Mads Conrad-Petersen-Mads Pieler Kolding for a place in the semi-finals. The Danes beat Thailand’s Bodin Issara-Nipitphon Puangpuapech 21-14, 21-17 in the second round.
