Spanish No.1 Borja GolanĀ has confirmed that he will defend his title at this yearā€™sĀ AJ Bell ESF European Individual Closed Squash ChampionshipsĀ to be staged at theĀ David Ross Sports VillageĀ at theĀ University of NottinghamĀ from theĀ 24th to 27th August.

The 34-year-oldĀ produced a sensational 82-minute 10-12 11-7 11-4 3-11 11-9 victory over current World No.1 Gregory Gaultier in last yearā€™s final to claim his maiden European Individual Closed Championship title.

ā€œThe European individual championships areĀ an important event for all the players who will be competing in Nottingham this year because each will be representing their country,” said theĀ record 15-time Spanish National Champion.

ā€œI was lucky to win last year but there willĀ be some very good players competing in Nottingham and I will just focus on playing my best and enjoying the challenge of defending my title. It will be the first major tournament after summer training so it will be a good test for everyone and Iā€™m really looking forward to representing Spain at the fantastic new facilities at the University of Nottingham,ā€ added the defending champion.

Hosted on behalf of the European Squash Federation in partnership with England Squash and University of Nottingham Sport, this yearā€™s AJ Bell ESF European Individual Closed Squash Championships will mark the first occasion that the event has been staged in the British Isles.
