Tee Jing Yi will be looking at polishing up her defensive play after getting her first taste of playing doubles competitively here at the E-Plus Badminton Asia Team Championships.

The former national singles No. 1 was roped in to partner Vivian Hoo after partner Woon Khe Wei suffered an injury to her knee on the first day of competition against Vietnam.

And the duo of Vivian-Jing Yi’s offensive play saw them picking up points over the Philippines and Thailand, including over worrld No.20 Chayanit Chaladchalam-Phataimas Wuenwong of Thailand yesterday.

But this morning, they came undone against a more experienced South Korea pair of Lee So Hee-Shin Seung Chan 10-21, 15-21.

“I felt that I did well in these two matches with Vivian but I still have a lot to work on especially in defence. I will have to change my style of play within these few months before heading over to Bangkok,” added the 27-year-old.

“Vivian is good in every aspect as a partner. It was a good experience partnering with her and I hope to be better.

The Malaysian girls fell to a 3-0 loss to South Korea in the quarter-finals – Soniia Cheah conceded a 13-21, 10-21 defeat at the hands of Sung Ji Hyun while Goh Jin Wei fell short against Jang Mi Lee 21-17, 11-12, 13-21.

Likewise, Vivian was also delighted with their partnership at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium in Alor Setar.

“We tried our best and our plans did not work today. Although we gave our all today but the Koreans were very composed and they were not nervous at all. It wasn’t easy to breach their defense.

“Our performance was really positive despite the defeat. We can feel the fighting spirit within the team whether it’s win or lose. I believe it’s a good thing in preparations for the Uber Cup.

“I feel we will need to work on our consistency. Players from other nations have that and we want to build on it.

“It was great partnering Jing Yi as we frequently have discussions to find ways to improve. We share different views and tactics which is really healthy. I think it’s not a problem for me to pair with her anytime,” replied Vivian. – ALVIN OH
