Pahang buried the disappointment of last year when the Elephants deservedly buried Selangor 2-0 in this year’s FA Cup final played at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.

This is the third time Pahang has won the FA Cup. Their previous wins were in 2006 and 2014.

The win over Selangor on Saturday made up for Pahang’s 3-2 defeat to Kedah in last year’s FA Cu[p final.

The Elephants, in coach Dollah Salleh’s own words, “gave the performance he wanted from the players” and according to plans.

“It is a very satisfying result…and I believe I have finally found my first team after a spate of injuries rocked Pahang. To lay the hands on the silverware after last year’s disappointment makes it sweeter.

“But we cannot rest on our laurels. There are more matches in the league and also the Malaysia Cup,” said Dollah a former international.

It was double joy for Pahang when Mohamadou was named the Man of the Match in the final watched by about 44,000 fans.

The Gambian had a hand in Pahang’s opening goal when he shrugged off a marker to cross for Norshahrul Idlan Talaha and the former international in turn relayed the ball to Nor Azam Azih.

Nor Azam fired home a bullet of a shot on the run with his right foot and the ball took a slight wicked swerve before hitting the roof of the net in the 23rd minute. Pahang 1-0

Selangor custodian Azhan Khalid, a former Pahang player, was beaten again in the 62nd minute – this time by Patrick Cruz from the penalty spot. The penalty was awarded when Selangor’s Brazilian defender Alfonso de la Cruz felled Austin Amutu inside the box.

Pahang fully deserves the victory and for Dollah it did not come easy when he had to play a reshuffled lineup in the first leg semi-final against PKNP (Perak SEDC). – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
