The Selangor Open Hockey 5’s has received an overwhelming response with 66 teams have signed up for this two-day tournament taking place on March 14 & 15 at Stadium Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia, Jalan Pantai, Selangor.
Selangor Hockey Competition Committee Chairman, Ganesh Shanmugam, said: “The Hockey 5′ is the explosive short format for field hockey played on a half-regulation size pitch and Selangor Hockey is the first state hockey association to organise it. We are excited with the number of teams that have confirmed their entries.”
The objective of Hockey 5s is to allow flexibility so that it can be played on any surface, on different sized pitches and to have or not to have side restraining boards.
There will be four categories contested – men and women’s open as well as school boys and girl. Total prize money of RM10, 000 will be up for grabs for the winners along with a host of special prizes.
“We are extremely grateful to our partners Milo & 100plus who have continued to support Selangor Hockey through the years and we welcome the opportunity to work with potential sponsors in this tournament and future activities of Selangor Hockey,” said Ganesh, adding that Selangor Hockey will also be organising the state league and indoor league.
