Malaysia ended the gold drought in archery in the 30th SEA Games by winning the men’s team compound with a 224-216 win over Vietnam at the Clark Parade Ground in New Clark City on Monday.

It is Malaysia’s third successive gold in the SEA Games in this event, having won in Singapore (2015) and Kuala Lumpur in 2017.

Mohd Juwaidi Marzuki, Zulfadhli Ruslan and M. Khambeswaran were the toast as they checked the Vietnamese trio of Nguyen Van day, Nguyen Tien Cuong and Thach Phi Hung much to the delight of the Malaysian camp.

“We were probably in the comfort zone due to our past victories in the Games,” said Juwaidi who won the bronze in the mixed compound event with Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh – narrowly losing out to Indonesia’s Sri Ranti-Prima Wisnu Wardhana 150-152.

Malaysia also settled for the silver in the men’s recurve through Khairul Anuar Mohamad, Haziq Kamaruddin and Muhamad Zarif Syahir Zulkepeli. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
