As expected Malaysia marched into the semi-finals in the men’s team event – strolling past host the Philippines 3-0 in the quarter-finals at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex on Sunday. Malaysia will now face southern neighbours Singapore – who packed off Myanmar 3-0.

Led by the country’s top men’s shuttler Lee Zii Jia, Malaysia secured the winning point through Soong Joo Ven in the second men’s singles with a 21-15, 21-17 win over Lanz Ralf Zafra.

Zii Jia contributed Malaysia’s first point when he outplayed Ros Lenara Pedrosa 21-12, 21-8 before Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik made it 2-0 in the men’s doubles with a 21-17, 21-14 win over Peter Gabriel Magnaye-Alvin Nitura Morada.

In the other semi-final defending champions, Indonesia will take on Thailand – 3-0 winners over Cambodia.
