Dubai based Rotax Max DD2 world champion set for next step of his career

Babington to take on the cream of world karting in European and World Championships

Energy UAE Kart Team star driver Sean Babington is embarking on an international karting campaign in the wake of winning the Rotax Max DD2 world championship in Valencia.

The Dubai based Briton, who has also featured prominently in this year’s UAE Rotax Max Championship in the build-up to racing in Europe, explained, “On the coaching side I will be based in Dubai doing driver coaching as part of the Energy UAE Kart Team programme, along with trips to the United Kingdom with UAE based drivers to help them adapt to racing abroad.”

“As for me personally I will be racing with UK Energy team and alongside that will be racing in the KZ2 series which caters for six speed gearbox karts. The goal is tocontest the CIK FIA European and World Championships, along with WSK world championship races.”

“Next weekend [starting 27 March] I will be running in a practice race in Lonato, Italy to be ready for when the championships kick off,” added Babington who has adopted Dubai as his home and is racing on a UAE licence, thus flying the UAE flag on the international stage.

“I must thank Energy UAE and the factory team who are making it possible for me to race. So I am really looking forward to it and bringing home some good results in the process.”

“As one progresses to the top level of international karting, where competition is of a very high standard, the more expensive it becomes. Therefore sponsorship is needed and important. This and support like I am getting from Energy helps to make it possible,” Babington remarked.

With Energy Kart headquarters across the road from the Kartdrome, in Motorcity, Babington makes the most of the situation, “Being based so close to a race track with good facilities like the Kartdrome is a dream to be honest. I can go testing every day if I need to and at the same time I can focus on coaching. Best of both worlds really.”

Energy UAE Kart Team team principal Kevin Day commented, “Sean is off on what we hope is the initial trip on his next phase of his racing career. He will be heading to Italy for training and for a race in the KZ category which is the pinnacle of kart racing with Energy.”

“As the first driver to bring a karting world championship title to the UAE, after his win at the Rotax Grand Finals last November, he will again be racing under his UAE License. The goal is to enter Sean into the three round European Championship and then the World Championship finals over one race weekend.”

“To make this happen Energy Dubai are in search of sponsorship and aiming to find the backing to make this possible for Sean who is a perfect ambassador for Dubai and the UAE,” added Day.
