# Mixed doubles Kian Meng-Pei Jing also blown away
# Women’s doubles Vivian-Cheng Wen bring some cheer

Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong continued their miserable run when they were shown the exit in the first round in the USD1,250.000 Blibli Indonesia Open at Istora Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The Malaysian Rio Olympics silver medallists fell to a 17-21, 21-19, 21-15 defeat to Denmark’s Kim Astrup- Anders Skaarup-Rasmussen in an hour. The duo reached the quarter-finals in last week’s Malaysian Open before losing to eventual champions Takeshi Kamura-Keigo Sonoda in the quarter-finals.

Malaysia hopes of making an impact in the mixed doubles also suffered a beating when the pair of Tan Kian Meng-Lai Jei Ping was blown away by Indonesia’s top seeds and defending champion Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir in straight games 21-11, 21-14 in 30 minutes.

However, there was some cheer in the Malaysian camp when the scratch women’s doubles pair of Vivian Hoo-Yap Cheng Wen advanced to the second round with a 21-18, 21-9 win over homesters Yulfira Barkah-Nitya Krishinda Maheswari in a 36-minute encounter.

The Malaysian next face a tough hurdle for a place in the quarter-finals when they meet second seeds Yuki Fukushima-Sayaka Hirota of Japan.

There were also surprises in the men’s singles when China’s fifth seed Chen Long and Lin Dan were dumped in the first round. Chen Long fell to unseeded Frenchman Brice Leverdez 21-17, 20-22, 19-21 after battling for 86 minutes.

Lin Dan, a five-time world champion and two-time winner of the Olympics gold medal went down to India’s No 8 seed H.S. Prannoy. The Indian won 21-15, 9-21, 21-14.

Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen, the winner of the Indonesia Open in 2014, was also bundled out in the first round. He lost to Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama, promoted from the qualifying round, 21-12, 17-21, 6-21.

Defending champion K. Srikanth of India and Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei, who won his 12th Malaysia Open title on Sunday, will go into action on Wednesday. Chong Wei is a six-time winner of the Indonesia Open.

Another Malaysian men’s doubles pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi will also be in action on Wednesday when they face Indonesia’s Wahyu Nayaka Arya Pangkaryanira-Ade Yusuf Santoso. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
