Philippinesā Miguel Tabuena believes he is good enough for another win when the US$750,000 Kingās Cup gets underway at the Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club from July 28-31.
For the first time in the history of the Kingās Cup, the tournament will be sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour and local viewers will get the chance to catch all four days of live action on the TrueVisions network in Thailand.
Tabuena has enjoyed a stellar run of form over the last seven months and is targeting another grandstand finish.
āIāll be there (Kingās Cup) and ready. Iām really happy with my game so far and I know I have what it takes to compete against the best,ā said Tabuena.
Having won his first Asian Tour title on home soil last December, the 21-year-old went on finish tied fourth and second in Singapore and Malaysia earlier this year.
Tabuenaās other moment of glory then came when he made his dream debut at the U.S. Open after topping the sectional qualifying last month.
āIāve learnt a lot the last couple of weeks especially at the U.S. Open and I know Iāve the game to be a good golfer,ā said the Filipino.
Tabuenaās Kingās Cup title ambitions will be put to test by a strong field that features Major champion Trevor Immelman of South Africa, defending champion Thaworn Wiratchant, Swedenās Johan Edfors and over 25 Asian Tour winners.
All eyes will also be on Malaysiaās Nicholas Fung, Australiaās Scott Barr and Japanās Shunya Takeyasu as they seek to erase their heartbreak of missing out on their maiden Tour victory in Chinese Taipei last week.
āSo close yet so far for me again this week. I did what I had to do but unfortunately not good enough to win.
āIt might not be the right time for me to win yet and I just have to work harder. Iāve to remain more positive and confident about myself. Iām sure Iāll be a winner one day,ā said Fung.
The Kingās Cup is making its return to the Asian Tour schedule after a yearās absence.
