Rakhine United and Magwe FC scored their first win of the new Myanmar National League 2017 season when they respectively beat Zwekapin United and Nay Pyi Taw by the same 1-0 score line.

Rakhine had Nigerian striker Mathew to thank when he scored the only goal in the 44th minute while Naing Naing Kyaw provided the decisive strike for Magwe in the 57th minute of play.

“Our team’s morale was the key to this match. Our players showed that they can work together, and get the forwards involved as well. Even though we didn’t control ball possession, our players kept the pressure up on the opponents,” said Rakhine United head coach U Soe Thein.

In the meantime, rivals Yangon United and Yadanarbon kept it close at the top of the table with the former beating Southern Myanmar 2-0 while the latter edged Ayeyawady United  2-1 at the Pathein Stadium.

Elsewhere, Hantharwady United beat newly promoted-side GFA 1-1 in Taungoo while Shan United beat Chin United 2-0.
