Melaka’s poor defense handed defending champions Johor Darul Takzim an easy 4-0 win at the Hang Jebat Stadium on Tuesday as the Southern Tigers established a firm grip for their fifth successive Super League title.

A dominating JDT never looked back once the visitors opened scoring on 40 minutes through their new Argentine hit-man Fernando Marquez from a cross by Fernando Elizari.

It was Elizari’s turn to get his name into the scoresheet with the second goal which came in the 53rd minute when he blasted home a rebound from goalkeeper Fazli Paat – a former JDT custodian.

From then on it was smooth flow for the Southern Tigers with Safawi Rasid scoring the in the 64th minute before substitute Nazmi Faiz Mansor scored the fourth in the last minute of play.

JDT, after 17 matches, have 44 points – a 13 point lead over second placed Perak on 31 with Kedah creeping to third with 30 points after a 2-0 win over PKNS FC at the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar.

Paulo Rangel scored the first in the 19th minute before Indonesian international got the second in the 40th minute.

At the Perak Stadium in Ipoh, a penalty goal by Leandro Da Silva was enough to give Perak 1-0 win over bottom-placed Kelantan.

A missed penalty by Austin Amutu proved costly for Pahang in their 1-1 draw with Selangor at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan after he was fouled inside the box.

Still, Wan Zaharulnizam Zakaria gave Pahang the lead in the 48th minute before Spaniard Rufino Segovia made it all square in the 61st minute. RIZAL ABDULLAH
