# Lin Dan wants Malaysia Open title badly to complete his ‘majors’

The Malaysia Open title has remained elusive for Chinese legend Lin Dan but he has not given up on his dream in this year’s Malaysia Open.

On Thursday took a giant step in fulfilling his dream when he marched into the quarter-finals in the USD550,000 Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open Superseries Premier.

He demolished Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana 21-15, 21-19 in 43 minutes to earn a quarter-final clash against Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen – the man who could shatter his dream of the Malaysia Open title.

“To me the All-England, the China Superseries Premier and the Malaysia Open Superseries Premier are the three ‘majors’ a badminton player want to win to complete his collection of badminton titles.

“I have won the All England and China Open Superseries plus the world and Olympic titles…but the Malaysia Open is one title I have failed to win. It has remained elusive and I want to win badly to complete my haul,” said Lin Dan after his win over Boonsak.

“It is a badminton player’s dream to win the badminton majors and I want it badly to complete my collection. The majors attract the top players in the world and it is not easy to win when you have a strong field with most of the top players competing.”

A fired up Jorgensen who defeated Malaysia’s Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin to advance to the quarter-finals said: “I am in no mood to lose. This is the Olympic year and you get more points in a Premier event and everyone is chasing ranking points too to get a good seeding.”
