The newly laid rough surface at the Lot Friendship Gate in Clark City posed no problems for Malaysian lawn bowlers – in fact, it was riddled with ‘gold’ as they swept to three gold medals to give Malaysia a head start in the competition on Monday.
Malaysia won the women’s pairs through Nurul Alyani Jamil and Emma Firyana Saroji who beat Brunei 21-14.
The men’s triples also went Malaysia’s way. Izzat ShameerDzulkeple, Fairus Jabal and Syamil Syazwan roared to an impressive 14-8 win over host Philippines.
The women’s fours represented by Afiqah Dayana Budiman, Nur Ain Nabilah Tarmizi, Syafiqa Haidar Afif and Siti Zalina Ahmad swept to an easy 17-6 win over the Philippines. RIZAL ABDULLAH
